Introduction and Core Values: 

The Department of Zoology started its journey from the very inception of the college in 2010 for undergraduate (Honours) study under North Bengal University. Since its initiation, it has improved immensely and established itself as one of the premier departments for undergraduate study.

In 2017, the Department has received the financial support of Rupees Twenty-Five Lakh under ‘Biotechnology based Opportunities Offered to Science and Technology (BOOST) Scheme’ from The Department of Higher Education, Science and Technology and Biotechnology, Govt. of West Bengal for development of infrastructural facilities for teaching & research.

Our department is committed to fostering a nurturing environment that promotes academic excellence, critical thinking, and holistic development. Our core values revolve around integrity, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Motivation, Goals, and Aspirations:

Our primary motivation is to empower students with knowledge and skills relevant to their chosen field. Our goals include enhancing student learning outcomes, fostering research and innovation, and promoting skill enhancement collaboration. We aspire to produce graduates who are well-equipped to tackle real-world challenges and contribute meaningfully to society.

Departmental Enhancing 5-Year Plan:

Short-Term: Focus on faculty development programs, and strengthening infrastructure. Implementation of innovative teaching methodologies and enhancement of student engagement.

 Mid-Term: Emphasize on research initiatives, skill enhancement partnerships, and student internships/workshops. Expansion of laboratory facilities and encourage interdisciplinary collaborations.

Long-Term: Consolidate efforts towards accreditation, national as well as international collaborations, and alumni engagement. Establish centres of excellence and facilitate entrepreneurship initiatives among students.

Challenges/ Shortcomings: 

Challenges include lack of permanent non-teaching staff both for stock keeping and laboratory management Additionally, maintaining high-quality standards amidst budgetary constraints poses significant hurdles.

Conclusion:

Our department remains committed to provide a conducive learning environment, fostering academic excellence, and preparing students for the challenges of the future. The collaborative efforts and continuous improvement initiatives that we undertake, will hopefully direct us to overcome challenges and achieve our aspirations for the betterment of our students and society.
